John Beilein has removed his name from consideration for the Detroit Pistons' head coaching job.

Beilein somewhat surprisingly emerged as a candidate following the firing of Stan Van Gundy.

Beilein has never worked in the NBA.

"I love the University of Michigan and I am excited about coaching our Men’s Basketball Team next season and in the years to come ! Let’s go hang some more banners at 'THE GREATEST UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD,'" wrote Beilein on Twitter.

The Detroit Pistons are interested in continuing their dialogue with head coaching candidates Dwane Casey, John Beilein and Ime Udoka.

Udoka, Casey and Beilein have already met with Detroit's front office.

The Pistons are searching for a replacement of Stan Van Gundy.

Casey was fired by the Raptors this offseason, while Beilein has spent his entire career coaching college.

Udoka made strong impressions in interviews in Toronto and Orlando, and it appears to be an inevitability that he will become an NBA head coach within in the next few years.

The Detroit Pistons have interviewed John Beilein for their head coaching vacancy.

Beilein has been head coach of Michigan since 2007 and has led the school to the Final Four in 2013 and 2018.

The Pistons are searching for a head coach to replace Stan Van Gundy.
